Fungi Foundation

Mistercap is proud to be a sponsor of The Fungi Foundationthe first global charity dedicated exclusively to the study and conservation of fungi. 2% of proceeds go to directly supporting their mission.

Fungi are the hidden architects of nature, operating beneath the surface to bolster the resilience of our forests and ecosystems. Nonetheless, these remarkable organisms face mounting threats, including habitat loss, pollution, and climate change. If we don't take action now, we face an imminent risk of losing thousands of fungal species, along with all the plants, animals, and indigenous knowledge associated with them.

The Fungi Foundation stands at the forefront of research, education, and conservation efforts, working tirelessly to raise awareness about the crucial role fungi play in preserving nature and combating climate change.

THE FUNGI EDUCATION PROGRAM

In 2021, in collaboration with world-renowned mycologists and educators, and in partnership with Reconsider and Fantastic Fungi, the Fungi Foundation launched its Fungi Education Curriculum—the world's first curriculum designed to introduce the study of mycology into middle and high schools.

Our Fungi Education program provides free learning resources to inspire educators and children across the globe to learn and explore all the wonders of fungi.

Since its inception, Fungi Education has achieved the following milestones:

  • They translated the Fungi Education curriculum into Spanish and are currently finalizing the Portuguese translation.
  • Over 3,500 individuals from 80 countries have enrolled in the Fungi Education Thinkific course resources, including the FF Curriculum and K-5 Activities.
  • Educators from the Fungi Education team have taught lessons in schools in the USA and Chile to more than 1,000 students.
  • They have conducted 9 teacher workshops, and the recordings of these workshops are now accessible on their website as valuable learning tools for educators.
  • In collaboration with North Spore and Smallhold, they have distributed complimentary mushroom grow kits to educators across the USA, enriching their students' learning experience through hands-on lessons.

Nevertheless, they are constantly working to enhance the mycological curriculum by developing new learning objectives and units that align with NGSS. The Fungi Foundation is also expanding their curriculum in the US and Latin America, starting with Chile and Brazil, where they will advocate for the program to be integrated into their national curricula.

At the Fungi Foundation, they truly believe that by teaching kids about fungi and their role in nature, educators can inspire a new generation of scientists and explorers, planting the seeds for a more environmentally conscious future—where they genuinely appreciate and protect our planet.
